Program Mission
The Teaching Excellence Program (TEP) is a year-long program designed to encourage new faculty to think critically about their teaching and to apply effective strategies and practices to maximize student learning. In this program, you will participate in engaging, interactive teaching and learning sessions and learn, implement, and share successful strategies and tips.
Objectives
At the end of the program, the participant will:
- Develop a teaching philosophy to help guide instruction and professional development.
- Create a positive learning environment to support a community of diverse learners
- Use a variety of appropriate teaching strategies to actively engage students and develop self-directed learners
- Use a variety of appropriate assessments to provide students with frequent and timely feedback
- Use appropriate technologies to support instruction and learning.
Target Audience
This program will be targeted to new full-time tenure-track faculty and open to others (including lecturers, existing faculty) on a space-available basis with approval of Division Chairs.
Program Overview
- The Teaching Excellence Program is a one-year, structured program.
- Participants meet on a weekly basis (Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m.) during the Fall Semester
- Participants meet in professional learning teams during the Spring Semester to implement and evaluate teaching strategies in their classes.
- Participants also participate in other recommended professional development programs (Mid-Semester Assessment, Teaching Squares, Power Mentoring, Team CARE workshops).
- A program coordinator works with the Professional Development Coordinator and the Educational Technology Developers to plan, implement, and evaluate this program.
