3. Classroom Management Tools
- User Profile
Practice: Create a user profile
- Live Video
Practice: Everyone with webcams say hi
- Interface and Layout Options
- Audio – simultaneous speakers, issues not using a headset
- Participants Window – common problems that happen
Practice: Taking away privileges for management, raising hand, using emoticons, stepping away, promoting to moderator
- Polling
Practice: Create two different polling slides in PPT (Ask yourself: What type of poll? Is this a hidden poll? Is this a timed poll? Do you want to lock in answers?). Save for upcoming activity.
- Activity Window
- Chat
Practice: Public, private, group, announcement chat messages
4. Content Management and Classroom Capture Tools
- Load presentation content
- Supported types: .ppt, .pptx, .gif, .jpg, .png, .tif, .sxi, .odp
- Keynote not supported
- Multimedia components (i.e. transitions, animations, clickable URLs) lost when uploaded to Elluminate Live!‘s whiteboard. Workaround – create multiple slides.
- Choose “Better Quality” for PPT and “Canvas Size”
- Tips: Avoid lengthy slides, lecturing too long, being the only speaker. Create interactive slides for participants to be involved, break up lecture into shorter time with activities in-between, have participants contribute ideas, lead session, etc.
Practice: Load your PPT slides (poll slides). Before you moderate, ask yourself: What type of poll? Is this a hidden poll? Is this a timed poll? Do you want to lock in answers? Do I know how to use the necessary tools to moderate this poll? Moderate your poll with the class as Participants. Publish the results. Follow-up poll with discussion or extension.
- Saving whiteboards
- Notes – notetaking and accessibility
- Record session – ability to pause recording

7. Task 1
In your small group, create an interactive session about a topic of your choice that includes the tools and management practices you learned today. Use the tools appropriately in your session. Be sure to include at least as many poll slides as there are people in your group so that everyone gets a chance to moderate a poll again. Divide the work and share the moderating duties. Rehearse/practice in your group. You will present to the other group.
